Developer Moonlight Kids and publisher Akupara Games have confirmed that Echo Weaver – their time-loop take on the Metroidvania genre – will launch on October 8, 2026. The game is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC simultaneously. It will also be available on Game Pass from day one.
The announcement came alongside a release date trailer that shows the protagonist jumping, gliding, and racing through a fractured world on the edge of reset.
A Metroidvania Built Around Knowledge, Not Items
Echo Weaver has been on the radar of genre fans for some time, drawing attention for its persistent time-loop mechanic and what Moonlight Kids calls the “MetroidBRAINia” – a knowledge-based spin on the classic Metroidvania formula.
The gating in the game does not come down to unlocking new abilities; instead it is the player who must learn how to pull off certain mechanics. Areas do tutor abilities, but stumbling upon them early does not lock you out – you can use the power right away.
That design philosophy flips a core pillar of the genre. Rather than collecting items to open new routes, everything is theoretically accessible from the start – players simply need to figure out how.
The Loop as a Resource
Echo Weaver puts you in the role of the last of the Weavers – a remnant of a ruined society trapped in a glitching time loop – and tasks you with exploring the shattered remains of Provenance, uncovering a deep conspiracy, and piecing together the one perfect loop that leads to freedom.
Players meet a digitalised cat named INTERMIND that lives in their mind, and time itself is a consumable resource: when it runs out, the loop ends and a new cycle begins.
A Metroidvania at heart, Echo Weaver adds twists like repeating cycles and progression through gained knowledge rather than items or upgrades.
