If it was open world, there wouldn't be a need to do that. I clocked about 20 hours on the game and pretty much did everything. Did I enjoy it? A bit.There are more cons than pros however. It's an addictive little game, which is a good and bad thing. You can be sat playing and a few hours pass by, now onto why it's a bad thing. It's £16.74 on the Xbox store if you don't have Game Pass and for what you get, it's a huge rip off. Everything goes by real time, be it structure cool downs, crafting, fishing, stores upgrading their stock, everything. The higher ranking the crafted item is, the longer it takes to craft and it can take literal hours to craft depending on what you are crafting. You get spells and items and perks to speed this up, but most of the time, it doesn't feel like it works. If you actually inspect the in-game cooldown times, you will also notice that three real seconds pass before one second passes in game. So a 10 second cooldown actually takes like 30. I wouldn't mind the ridiculous crafting and cooldown times if it was a free to play game where you have to pay to speed up the crafting process, but it's not. It's a cheap way to try and get longevity out of the game.And for an 8-bit game, the more map you open up and the more resources that spawn, you are met with a LOT of slowdown and lag that it gets irritating. It feels like a stripped down, 2D Minecraft with all the freedom taken away. £16.74 is way too much to charge for this game. I'd say it's worth about £6.99 max. I said it's a good and bad thing that it's addictive. Good, because at first it can be and is fun, but the longer you play and the more time you need to craft things, it quickly becomes a chore and turns boring and then you start wishing you hadn't wasted like 10 hours on the game when you could have been playing something much better.All in all Forager is basically a glorified mobile game that found it's way onto consoles and is way to overpriced for what happens in it. As I said before if it was a free game I'd understand the long crafting times and would have rated the game a little higher.I'm not saying avoid this game, by all means give it a go if it's your thing, but there's just no rewarding feeling about it at all. It may as well be called Waiting: The Game.

You basically keep mining and growing starting with just a pic axe in your hand. You can get hungry and get hurt by some slimy creatures be careful because when you die it's game over. You'll have access to various of items, weapons, skill upgrades and more but again these are one run only. Overall, Forager is a gem of a game where progression is the primary objective – and what that progression looks like is entirely up to you. Maybe that’s the point, in a way, to make our own choices and experience Forager uniquely from each other. It’s refreshing to play a game that expects nothing of the player except their participation, and I look forward to spending much more time in its world doing just that. It’s a great addition to the Xbox One library and a game I definitely recommend adding to your library as it’s definitely a fun experience each time you play.

Forager on Xbox One is a great investment. The amount of content in the game is phenomenal and it can only get better. If foraging, building, and adventuring are up your alley then I heartily recommend Forager.

The game claims to be an idle game that allows you to stay active and play but doesn't actually become idol until around 10 hours in where you can produce small numbers of resources automatically. The game is quite fun and cute, but I can't recommend it to everybody. If you like Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon, Minecraft, or Animal Crossing, however, you may like this game too.

Forager brings forth a good open-world simulation game that successfully transmits to the player a rewarding feeling of growth and involvement, along with simple and fun mechanics. Watching the growth from a simple plot of land to a large empire is very satisfactory, even if the game's performance seems to deteriorate as the player's fiefdom expands.

Reviewing this game was a ton of fun. I enjoyed every minute I have put into it. With so much more to be discovered, I can’t wait until the next time I have a chance to play it again. Forager is easily one of my favorite games. Players who enjoy crafting, farming, and exploration should definitely check this game out.

I am addicted, my sons are addicted and we have to share a Switch. Frankly, its hell. Once Forager gets its long claws into you, you're in trouble. Its so moreish, its a lot of fun and there is always something to be doing, some new items to find or build. Just go and buy this game now its great fun. Its definitely one of my favorite games of the year so far.

I had a ton of fun with Forager for the first 10 hours or so but once I got to the point when the pacing becomes tedious, that fun quickly came to a halt. Nevertheless, I would still recommend Forager to fans of similar games.

Every now and then, a game comes along that captures our hearts and reminds us why we love the medium in the first place. Forager is the latest in a line of stellar independent games to grace the Switch, featuring wonderfully designed crafting mechanics, addictive progression systems and more charm than you can possibly handle. It has very minor drawbacks, and its longevity will ultimately depend on how comprehensive its upcoming DLC will prove to be. Nonetheless, there's enough good stuff present here for us to confidently declare that Forager is a game all Switch owners should look into adding to their collection.

Forager is a lovely surprise, its simple appearance disguising a huge amount of content packed under the surface. Rarely has crafting been as enjoyable and streamlined, whilst the sheer range of things to do means that you never have to feel bored. You’re always working towards something whilst the dungeons are well designed and feature classic puzzles which makes for a refreshing change of pace from the relentless acquisition. All in all, Forager is a gem, and well deserves to dig its way under your skin. Just don’t complain to me it's 4AM and you’re still mining.
