It’s the NBA JAM on the Switch!Gameplay is very fun, and deep enough to me wanna practice and perfect my timing for steals, blocks, and rebounds. It’s still the best sport game I’ve played on Switch. Gacha is quite annoying at first but after you started to unlock some players, it actually becomes a great reward system. I have not spent any money and just continuously grind the season mode through increasing difficulty level to “git gut”. Now I am at a stage where every pack gives me all dupes so I just have to unlock individual players. Performance can be quite bad at times. Online is not an amazing experience. Due to lack of players, it can take a long time to find a match. I’ve had match with the same guy 3x. Does it mean that there’s only the 2 of us playing this game in the entire world? Sometimes also it lags quite bad during online play and people just kinda stand around doing nothing. I’ve also experienced getting ball stolen from me during a lag, which is very annoying. Even during normal gameplay, I’ve noticed that sometimes i experience input lag. This can really break the game as it heavily rely on perfect timing to steal, shoot, and block. On 3pt competition, you can see the meter sometimes stutter, which can throw your aim. Note that I play mainly docked, using either the joycons or Nyko wireless core controller. But despite these problems, I still give it a 9 because it gives me the best fun I’ve had since Splatoon 2 and Pokémon Sword. Like I said, I’m completely addicted to this game and wished there are more people playing this game. It’s an amazing game!I hope that Saber makes Playground 3!!!

With so many players ranging over so many different combinations of strengths I feel like you could mix up your playstyle to fit whatever mood you're in and never feel boxed in to a single "best" way to play.CPU AI rarely feels unfairly overpowered.. at least not for long. Sure, when you get too far ahead AI opponents will drop threes like crazy, but who wants every match to be a runaway? It doesn't feel like punishment. When the CPU does get on a roll it keeps local matches fun and it doesn't happen enough to stay frustrating for long.If you are finding it overly difficult, or eventually begin finding it easy to win there are four different match difficulties. The AI gets smarter as you ramp up these difficulties without feeling like it is cheating.Also, this game is pretty! So many different character animations. So many beautifully over-the-top moves that are just crazy enough to bring a smile to your face without becoming repetitive or annoying. The court variety is nice, and they are all gorgeous. And, you can build your own court!.. with cosmetic bonuses that you'll need to either grind or pay for.. which brings me to my next point..Lets talk about paying real money to unlock the full player roster and for cosmetic items. Cosmetic items both for your players, and for parts to build out your own court. Technically you don't NEED to pay to get these things. You can grind for everything, but you will be grinding A LOT. This would be a much bigger issue if the gameplay wasn't great, but it is! I don't count off a lot for this because grinding is playing the game.. and playing this game is fun!That said, I get it. Micro-transactions suck, and if you are coming to this game wanting to play as your favorite legend your options are going to be A.) get really lucky B.) Grind, or C.) Pay real money. The same goes if you want to get heavy into decking out your players in fresh gear. That stinks. I understand.However, if what you want more than anything is simply to be able to play as your favorite legend, there are ways to make that grind easier without paying. Winning an NBA Season with your player's team is guaranteed to unlock a Legend from that team.Even without grinding for dozens of hours or shelling out real money for upgrades, just playing this game is top of the heap arcade basketball fun and after a handful of exhibition games to get your footing and an NBA season or two you will have unlocked enough players to build a team to fit your playstyle and you will have had fun doing it. If you didn't, then this type of arcade basketball game probably just isn't your thing.PROS: Controls are tight and responsive. Smart/fair AI. NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 is a reasonably fun revisitation of the first game, carrying over the strong improvements its predecessor gained from patches, including a better shooting system. However, there’s not much in the way of deeply engaging content to keep you playing more than a couple of pickup games with your friends.

Overall, Playgrounds 2 is lacklustre and feels too much like a mobile game franchise. It takes advantage of its audience and never offers enough satisfaction in return for the money, or the grind sessions. Ultimately, NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 is a bad game, and certainly no spiritual successor. Stick with NBA 2K19 or NBA Jam itself.

If you’re looking for a fun and action-packed arcade basketball game, you’re unfortunately going to have to look elsewhere. NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 is a disappointing and overpriced step backwards that suffers from the changes that were made to it, not to mention greed. As much as I looked forward to, and wanted to enjoy this one, I never found it to be all that fun.

The game is not up to its predecessor. It's still a great arcade title for NBA fans, and there is a clear graphic improvement but there are bad gameplay design decisions, such as forcing you to play for hours with each player until you get their attributes.

The gameplay itself is fun and it’s a great throwback to NBA Jam, allowing you to have some fun for a few hours either with friends or online to dominate the playgrounds and become number 1. However, the grind needed to get any good players just isn’t worth the work.

Fun, old school gameplay with over the top action, beautiful dunks and awesome power-ups. The game has quite a lot of content to offer and is a lot of fun to play with other people. Because you need to have two players from one same team in order to properly begin playing NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 (players are handed out at random), the game gets off to a slow start. A drawback is the micro transaction heavy online multiplayer which dampens the fun, but nevertheless NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 is a very fun game to play.

This is a game that does absolutely not need to exist but does for the sheer fact that the original game had no way of raking in the dough.

I would say if you enjoyed the over the top nature of NBA Jam and don’t want to think too hard about your gaming… NBA Playgrounds 2 is a great buy. Whether having friends round or just wanting a casual game to grab and play, there’s a lot of fun to be had here.

A lacklustre effort after last year’s promising start. It attempts to address some of the issues but these end up being unforced turnovers that makes the game actively worse. When you couple this with only one of the major gameplay problems being addressed, you find yourself with a disappointing sequel. This is a series that definitely does not need to be on a yearly cycle, and most people who bought the original last year will find they have already had their fill.

While the introduction of microtransactions is hardly surprising considering the history of its new publisher, they don’t hit NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 as hard as might expect. It will take you a while to grind out every player (unless you just buy them all from the off), but it helps that the core arcade gameplay remains as fun and enjoyable as ever. It doesn’t quite capture the blissful mayhem of NBA Jam, but if the main NBA 2K series has always felt a little too realistic for you, this larger-than-life spin-off offers a bright and empowering way to defy gravity like Air Jordan himself.

If you liked NBA Playgrounds then this game will surely be a solid improvement you enjoy. If the first game was too buggy, or there were too many issues, then Playgrounds 2 fixes many problems. There are still reasons to be cautious with things like roster unlocks and limitations in the game modes, but it is overall a solid package.

Once again I enjoyed the presentation side of the game because both the visuals and sound design enhance the arcadey feel the gameplay possesses. There’s more depth present in all the different modes this year and this does make you want to return back to the game time and time again. I like the inclusion of being able to upgrade the players because it gives you a reason to continue playing which of course means the replaybility is high. Technically the game holds up really well throughout your time with the game and the online components have been improved significantly. In order to get the best player’s you have to grind a lot and this can be a little tedious every now and then. I did enjoy the NBA Season mode at first it did get repetetive quite quickly and more variety would’ve been nice here. Overall I was very pleased to see that NBA Playgrounds was returning for a second game because whilst the first game had a few shortcomings It still provided me with a lot of fun and enjoyable moments. Thankfully this time around there aren’t as many shortcomings and NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 has more depth in a number of areas compared to the first game. Each mode offers you more this year and this does make the game have a lot more replaybilty and when you combine that with the technically sound gameplay you end up getting addicted very quickly. The gameplay isn’t just technically better this year as well because it also feels much more refined and whilst getting the better players takes quite a bit of grinding you can look past this thanks to the inclusion of being able to upgrade the players you already have. The presentation side of the game also gives you a reason to look past the grinding issue as well because once again it ticks a lot of boxes in both the visuals and sound design. At the end of the day then recommending NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 is quite easy because it’s an improvement over last year’s game and if you enjoyed the first game then this is a must buy because you’ll have even more fun and enjoyable moments this time around.

The sheer insanity of Playgrounds‘ on-screen madness truly keeps me motivated to come back to the game again and again. But it’s those few unnecessary, backward changes that keep Playgrounds 2 from becoming a true champion.
