Personally I’ve always preferred the Pro Evolution Soccer series to FIFA and I’ve certainly got my money’s worth from this 2018 edition havingPersonally I’ve always preferred the Pro Evolution Soccer series to FIFA and I’ve certainly got my money’s worth from this 2018 edition having played the MyClub mode, especially the co-op, for a good couple of months. The key is of course the gameplay. Yes, it may only be a refinement of previous iterations but, as ever, it plays a more realistic and entertaining game than its main (only?) competitor from EA. The addition of online co-op is also a huge addition allowing you to play with mates even when not in the same room, and this did help to negate a few of the games flaws.Unfortunately however the more I’ve played the more frustrated I’ve become with these flaws. I can put up with the missing licenses but issues such as chipped through balls being far too easy to play, defenders taking an age to clear the ball and getting caught in possession and far too frequent lag in online games has eventually, worn me down to the point where I’ve all but stopped playing it now.This makes it a difficult game for me to review and mark really as I can’t say I haven’t had a good time with PES2018 but sat here right now the overriding emotion is disappointment at how close this title is to being outstanding. Can 2019 finally be the year when Konami get everything right?

Bought and refunded.I have a very good pc, above recommended specs, but the game was stuttering pretty hard. Couldn't solve it. Meh.

However the worse thing is the multiplayer component where other players either are not available, or if you do get paired with someone then that individual is either a lag cheater or has tricked the system to make it seem that that individual is a very low rated player but then has a team full of black ball stars!

Overall, what PES 2018 lacks in authenticity, it more than makes up for in gameplay. Bettering its predecessor on the pitch, PES 2018 is another fantastic entry in the series.

Looking at it negatively, you could say that PES 2018 is torn between two ideas, even seems to have some kind of identity crisis. Glass half full types will see it as a lovely soccer game, that can even be more fun than FIFA when played with friends. The added realism even gives it the credibility needed to give it an edge over FIFA.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 is one of the most solid (yet least flashy) sports sims on the market. Every year, PES seems to further carve out its own identity and plant a flag for players who want a deeper, less forgiving, and yet somehow more familiar soccer-playing experience. Everything in PES 2018 is earned, and while some of it still could use some polish, it continues to take steps forward. How long it can withstand the tidal wave of FIFA’s recent successes and licensing dominance, however, remains to be seen.

A lot has gone into changing how the game is played in PES 2018. The more measured approach is wonderful, as is Real Touch+. That's why the parts that need an upgrade stick out more than they have in years.

It might lack the big budget feel of FIFA, most keenly felt in the match atmosphere, commentary and the lack of TV-like production values, but it plays a damn fine game of football.

Sadly, all the good work on the pitch is let down by tired and dated looking menus, game modes that are desperately in need of some innovation, shockingly bad commentary and the continued lack of licenses. It's a solid jumping-on point if you're new to the series, but seasoned veterans may find too few improvements to justify the price.

The new edition of PES does not offer a revolution. But you need to remember that Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 doesn't need one - it's a great sporting game that just got a little better. Ball control improvement and additions in Master League are welcome, but the small number of licenses is not (as usual). But all in all it's still a very good game.

PES 2018 is the confirmation that the franchise of Konami is evolving into the total football, with a gameplay that captures amazingly the details of this sport, and where the stars, the players, are astonishing real with a photorealistic style.
